So we knew Ava was capable of walking if she wanted to based on the fact that she climbs on everything with great leg strength and squats to pick up toys and can stand while just barely holding onto something....but we just couldn't get her to venture out and try to take a step without assistance. As soon as you let her go, she would sit down immediately. This past week, we have caught her letting go of support and standing on her own a couple of times, but only if she was distracted and didn't realize she did it! We have been really encouraging her to walk and she happens to be OBSESSED with remote controls, phones or any electronic device, especially if it lights up. So yesterday, she became distracted by the phone I was holding so we decided to try to temp her into walking in order to reach the phone and it worked! We only expected she would try to take a step or two, but the little princess suprised us with some skills she's been holding back! She took a step and just kept going! Now we are conviced that either she's a perfectionist and didn't want to walk until she could do it well, or (and maybe more likely) she just enjoys being carried around and waited on and didn't want to tip us off that she could do more things on her own :) Either way, we are thrilled!!
